Khosrov Reserve is a protected nature area in southern Armenia. It started out as “Khosrov Forest” between AD 334 and 338 to honour King Khosrov II, and in 1958 it became a state reserve. Its history stretches back more than 1,700 years.
In the reserve you’ll find all kinds of plants and animals, plus amazing scenery. There are mountain ridges, thick forests, rivers and, of course, waterfalls. You might see Caucasian leopards, mountain goats, badgers and lots of different birds.
Our one-day walking tour begins at the main entrance to Khosrov Reserve and ends in the Azat River gorge, in front of the “Symphony of Stones."

Vahagn and Astghik are two of the four waterfalls in Khosrov Reserve, named after ancient pagan gods, and they sit just a few hundred metres apart.
First, we’ll visit Vahagn Waterfall, named for the god of thunder and war. A narrow but powerful stream drops about 10 metres down a nearly vertical cliff, roaring as it crashes onto the flat rocks below. Next, we’ll walk on to Astghik Waterfall, named for the goddess of love and beauty. This one is gentler, tumbling over rocky steps into a clear pool at the base. Both falls are framed by trees and bushes that lean over the water, making the setting feel truly magical.

Welcome to the Garni Gorge, where the Azat River and its tributary, the Goght, have carved out one of Armenia’s most spectacular sights. In 2000, UNESCO recognised this river and the nearby Geghard Monastery as World Heritage sites—so you’re walking in some truly historic footsteps!
As you walk through the gorge, you’ll come across towering basalt columns—some reaching up to 300 metres high. From a distance, they look just like the pipes of a giant organ, which is why people call this spot the “Symphony of Stones” or “Basalt Organ.”
These six-sided columns formed when ancient lava cooled and split into neat pillars. They fit together so perfectly it looks as if someone carved them by hand.
From there, you’ll enjoy a fantastic panorama of the ancient Temple of Garni resting on the hilltop—a perfect photo opportunity to round off your visit.
