Our adventure begins with a stop at Devil’s Bridge (also known as Satani Kamurdj), just 2.5 km from the village of Tatev. This natural rock bridge stretches about 30 metres long and 50-60 metres wide, hanging around 50 metres above the river in the deep Vorotan Gorge. I’s located in the deepest part of the gorge, at a depth of 700–800 meters.
The natural bridge was formed over centuries under the influence of travertine and hot mineral waters with a temperature of about 250°C, the source of which is located directly beneath the bridge. You’ll notice colourful streaks of pink, yellow, and green on the rocks—painted by the minerals in the water. Even though some parts have worn away, the bridge remains an impressive sight and a great place to admire the power of nature. The mineral waters beneath the bridge flow directly into the Vorotan River, making it more abundant.
Tatev Monastery is a medieval complex built in the 9th–10th centuries, located about 20 km from the town of Goris. For centuries, it was the spiritual heart of the Syunik region and a shining example of Armenia’s rich architectural heritage.
The harmony between Tatev Monastery and the surrounding landscape creates a breathtaking atmosphere, taking visitors back to the days when it was one of Armenia’s most important religious and academic centres. In 1995, it was nominated for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Revival of Tatev project aims to restore the monastery, bring back its role in education, and give the site a new life. One of the main highlights is the Wings of Tatev cable car, which takes visitors on a scenic ride over the gorge to the monastery.

Mount Khustup is the highest peak of the Khustup-Katar range, located in southern Armenia, in Syunik Province, just south of Kapan. It stands at 3,206 metres above sea level. The mountain has rich vegetation, with forests covering the north-eastern slopes. There are also caves along the way.
The Vachagan River begins from the snowy slopes of Khustup. The name “Khustup” comes from the word khutu, meaning “prayer.” This sacred mountain was once a place of pilgrimage. It’s also known as the area where Armenian commander Garegin Nzhdeh fought and was later buried at its foot. The village of Bekh lies on one of its slopes.
We’ll rest and have a snack at the top.
Hike back down and begin our return journey to Yerevan, passing through Baghaburj on the way.
