Information on the rules for granting entry visas to Armenia

Information on the rules for granting entry visas to Armenia

If you are planning a trip to Armenia, we recommend checking before your journey whether you need an entry visa.

Armenia's visa requirements depend on your citizenship, the type of travel document you hold, and in some cases, whether you have a residence permit issued by another country. Therefore, fixed lists of countries can quickly become outdated.

We recommend checking the latest requirements directly on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

Below, we have collected the main information about Armenia's visa regime, electronic visas, visa-free entry, and the temporary rules in force in 2026.

Do You Need a Visa to Enter Armenia?

Citizens of some countries can enter Armenia under a visa-free regime, while citizens of other countries need to obtain an entry visa. Citizens of countries enjoying a visa-free regime may generally stay in the Republic of Armenia for up to 180 days within one year, unless a different period is established by Armenian legislation or international agreements.

Citizens of other countries must obtain an entry visa in accordance with the applicable rules.

As visa requirements may change, we recommend checking the official visa service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia before your trip.

How Can You Check Whether You Need a Visa for Armenia?

The official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia provides a visa requirement checker. When checking the requirements, you should consider not only your citizenship but also the type of travel document you hold. This is particularly important for holders of diplomatic, service, and other special travel documents.

Temporary Visa-Free Regime for Residence Permit Holders

From July 1, 2026, to July 1, 2027, a special temporary visa-free regime applies to citizens of 111 countries who hold an eligible valid residence permit.

Citizens of these countries may enter Armenia without a visa if they hold a valid residence permit issued by:

  • the United States of America;
  • a Member State of the European Union;
  • a country in the Schengen Area;
  • the United Arab Emirates;
  • the Kingdom of Bahrain;
  • the State of Qatar;
  • the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia;
  • the State of Kuwait;
  • the Sultanate of Oman.

The residence permit must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Armenia. Under this temporary regime, visa-free visitors may stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within one calendar year.

Important! Holding a residence permit issued by another country does not by itself guarantee visa-free entry. You must meet all the requirements of the temporary regime, including the applicable citizenship and document requirements.

What Requirements Must the Residence Permit Meet?

To qualify for the temporary visa-free regime, the residence permit must be presented:

  • as a physical plastic card; or
  • as a sticker affixed to the passport.

The document must contain the required identification information. In particular, the holder's first name, surname, and citizenship, as well as the date of birth and validity period, must be indicated in Latin letters and according to the Gregorian calendar.

For example, the residence permit expiry date may be shown in a format such as 18.06.2027 or 18 JUN 2027.

Before travelling, we recommend making sure that your document meets the requirements of the Armenian border authorities.

Electronic Visa for Armenia (E-VISA)

Citizens of a number of countries may be eligible to obtain an electronic visa for Armenia. An application for an electronic visa can be submitted through the official portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia:

Official Armenia E-VISA Portal

Before submitting an application, you should check whether an electronic visa is available for your citizenship and type of travel document. When completing the application, you must provide the requested information and documents and pay the applicable government fee.

Can You Obtain a Visa on Arrival in Armenia?

The possibility of obtaining a visa directly at the border depends on the traveller's citizenship, type of travel document, and the applicable visa requirements. Obtaining a visa at the border is not an option available to all foreign nationals.

If you are unsure whether you can obtain a visa on arrival, we recommend checking the requirements on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia before starting your journey.

When Is an Invitation Required?

Citizens of certain countries are subject to a special procedure for obtaining an entry visa, under which an application may only be accepted if an invitation is provided. This restriction does not apply to citizens of Armenian origin from those countries. Since the applicable categories and requirements may change, we do not publish a fixed list of countries on this page.

You can check the latest information regarding invitation requirements on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

What Documents Do You Need to Enter Armenia?

To enter Armenia, a foreign national must have a valid travel document and the appropriate document confirming their right to enter the country. Depending on the individual circumstances, this may include:

  • a valid passport or other valid travel document;
  • an entry visa, if required;
  • a document confirming the right to visa-free entry;
  • a residence permit, if the right to enter is based on holding one;
  • additional documents, if required under the applicable visa regime.

Before travelling, check the validity of all your documents and make sure they meet the requirements applicable to your citizenship.

Entering Armenia with Children

When travelling with minor children, you should check the requirements for the child's documents and those of the accompanying adults in advance. Particular attention should be paid to situations where a child is travelling with only one parent or with another accompanying person. In addition to Armenia's requirements, additional rules may apply under the legislation of the child's country of citizenship or the country from which the child is travelling.

How Much Does a Visa to Armenia Cost?

The government fee depends on the type of visa.

Visa TypeGovernment Fee
Visitor visa for up to 21 days AMD 3,000
Visitor visa for up to 120 days AMD 15,000
Multiple-entry visa: stay of up to 60 days, valid for up to 6 months AMD 20,000
Multiple-entry visa: stay of up to 120 days, valid for up to 1 year AMD 40,000

The amounts listed above are government fees. They do not include any additional expenses that may arise in connection with document processing or intermediary services.

How Long Is an Armenian Visa Issued For?

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, an entry visa may be issued for up to 120 days, with the possibility of extending it for another 60 days, unless a different period is established by international agreements of the Republic of Armenia. The specific validity period and permitted length of stay depend on the visa category.

Can You Extend Your Visa in Armenia?

In certain cases, the period of stay in Armenia may be extended. To request an extension, you must apply to the relevant government authority and submit an application in accordance with the established procedure.

Applications for extending the validity period of an entry visa are handled by the Passport and Visa Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia. If you need to stay in Armenia longer than the permitted period, we recommend starting the extension procedure in advance rather than waiting until the last day of your authorized stay.

Special Travel Documents

Visa requirements may differ depending on the type of document used by a foreign national for travel.

This may be relevant for holders of:

  • diplomatic passports;
  • service and official passports;
  • special travel documents;
  • other documents replacing an ordinary passport;
  • Laissez-Passer documents issued by the United Nations or the European Union.

In particular, holders of valid United Nations or European Union Laissez-Passer documents may enter Armenia and stay in the country without an entry visa for up to 180 days within one year.

Therefore, when checking visa requirements, it is important to specify not only your citizenship but also the correct type of travel document.

What Should You Know Before Crossing the Border?

Having a visa does not automatically guarantee the right to enter the country. A foreign national must have valid documents and comply with the requirements established by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia.

Before travelling, we recommend checking:

  • the validity of your passport;
  • whether you need to obtain a visa;
  • the permitted length of stay;
  • whether an invitation is required;
  • residence permit requirements if you are using the temporary visa-free regime;
  • requirements for children and accompanying persons if you are travelling as a family.

Where Can You Check the Latest Visa Requirements?

Armenia's visa requirements may change. Therefore, instead of relying on outdated lists of countries, we recommend checking the information directly on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia before every trip.
