With a Rucksack Through Armenia is a 5-day, 4-night hiking tour offered by the tour operator “ExploreArmenia”. It’s designed for travellers who enjoy exploring on foot and want to see the real Armenia.
Walking with a rucksack gives you the freedom to discover the country at your own pace. You’ll visit cultural landmarks, enjoy breathtaking views, and reach quiet, hidden places that cars can’t access. The walking is moderate and suitable for most people. It’s a healthy and relaxing way to travel.
In one day, you might walk through flower-filled valleys, throw snowballs in the mountains in summer, and swim in the fresh, cool waters of Lake Sevan. Join us and discover Armenia step by step – with a rucksack on your back and adventure ahead!



Airport Transfer.
We’ll meet you at the airport and begin your Armenian journey with a walking tour of Yerevan, the capital city. Yerevan is full of charm and character, with a mix of architectural styles, green boulevards, lively fountains, and welcoming open spaces. During the walk, you’ll visit some of the city’s most famous spots, including: France Square, Opera and Ballet Theatre, Northern Avenue, Republic Square.
We’ll then head to the Cascade Complex – a huge stairway stretching 500 metres, with 572 steps. The Cascade is lined with fountains, flowerbeds, and modern sculptures, making it a unique open-air museum. Inside, across five levels, is the Cafesjian Centre for the Arts, showcasing works by well-known international artists.

We begin our hike in the village of Semenovka, heading towards Mount Yeghnasar, which rises to 2,599 metres. It lies on the border between the Gegharkunik and Tavush regions and is part of the beautiful Areguni mountain range.
From the top, you’ll enjoy wide, open views of Lake Sevan, the Tsaghkunyats Mountains, and the distant peaks of Tavush. After a break at the summit, we’ll descend to Lake Kakach, a small, colourful lake at 2,300 metres above sea level, not far from the village of Tsovagyugh. The lake is known for its unusual shape and peaceful setting. The hiking will end in the village of Tsovagyugh.
We’ll visit Lake Sevan – the largest high-altitude freshwater lake in the South Caucasus. It sits at 1,900 metres above sea level and covers more than 1,200 square kilometres, average depth: 26.8 m, maximum depth: 80 m. The lake is surrounded by mountains and is a popular place for swimming, relaxing, and enjoying nature.
Our final stop is Sevanavank Monastery, located on the Sevan Peninsula. It was once an small island and is home to two ancient churches founded in 874 AD by Princess Mariam. The monastery offers stunning views over the lake and mountains.
Overnight stay in Dilijan. You’ll spend the night in Dilijan, a peaceful town known for its forests, fresh air, and charming streets.

We will start the day by visiting Parz Lake, a small and beautiful lake in Armenia’s Tavush region, located 1,334 metres above sea level. The lake is surrounded by forest and has clear, calm water. It is about 385 metres long, 85 metres wide, and over 5 metres deep.
From the lake, we will hike to the village of Gosh. There, we will visit Goshavank Monastery, a large and important church complex built in the 12th–13th centuries. It is located in the centre of the village and is a great example of medieval Armenian architecture.
Next, we will travel to the village of Yenokavan, which is also in Tavush. It is known for its beautiful nature and is a popular place for adventure activities. Just one kilometre from the village, there is a special adventure park created by a local resident, where you can try different outdoor activities.

We’ll begin the day with a hike down into Lastiver Gorge, located in northeastern Armenia, about 3 kilometres from the village of Yenokavan, in the Ijevan district of Tavush region. The gorge became popular in the early 2000s, when nature lovers and eco-tourists started coming here for hikes. The trail to the Lastiver caves goes through a beautiful forest, where you can enjoy fresh air, see small waterfalls, and walk through lovely green nature.
After the hike, we will return to Yenokavan.
You will then have free time, during which you can choose from optional outdoor activities (all paid separately). These include: Zip-lining, Rope parks, Paragliding, Zorbing, Horse trekking, Paintball, Rock climbing, Jeep tours, Via ferrata.
Later in the day, we will travel back to Yerevan. Hotel Check-in.

Today, we’ll visit Yerevan’s Central Market. In Armenia, dried fruits are very popular and are often enjoyed with Armenian brandy. Locals dry many kinds of fruits – even watermelon, melon, and tomatoes!
Next, we’ll explore Vernissage, Yerevan’s famous open-air market for traditional arts and crafts. Here you can find: Handmade chess and backgammon sets, Colourful ceramics, Beautiful jewellery, Traditional musical instruments, Paintings, silverware, and more. It’s a great place to find souvenirs and gifts.
Transfer to the airport.

The time and the order of the excursions declared in the program are subject to change. The excursion program of the first and the last days will depend on your arrival and departure time, and the days of the week. Please note that Monday is a day off in Armenia's museums.
