Angels’ Gorge is a natural attraction in Armenia’s Ararat Province, near the village of Dashtakar. It was once the path of a river, which over time carved out a canyon with high, often vertical yellow-red cliffs and a narrow base.

This ancient fortress is located 6 km northwest of the village of Urtsadzor, near the Khosrov Forest Reserve. It was built between the 10th and 13th centuries and is surrounded by strong stone walls with rounded towers at each corner. Inside the fortress, you can see a 13th-century church. Gevorg Marzpetuni was a noble and military leader. In the 10th century, during the reign of King Ashot II (914–929), he led Armenian forces to an important victory in a battle near Lake Sevan.

About 1.5 kilometres north-west of the village of Landjanist, at the foot of Mount Dahnak, you’ll find the ruins of Spitak Vank church. Dating from 1301, it was a simple single-hall basilica built from finely cut sandstone – which probably explains its name, Spitak Vank, meaning “White Monastery.”
Today, the north and east walls still stand, while the other two have fallen back to their foundations. To the left of the entrance is a beautifully carved khachkar (cross-stone) set into the wall; you can read an inscription at its base, and six more inscriptions remain on the surviving walls. Spitak Vank was destroyed in the devastating earthquake of 1679.
