After that, we’ll go to the Cascade Complex, a huge staircase 500 metres long (572 steps) with fountains, flowerbeds, and an open-air museum with about 30 sculptures by famous artists. Inside the Cascade is the Gafesjian Centre for the Arts, spread across five levels.

Next, we’ll visit the Garni Temple, the only standing Ancient (Greco-Roman-style) pagan temple in Armenia. It was built in the 1st century by King Tiridates I and dedicated to the sun god Mithra. Nearby, the Azat River Gorge is known for its stunning basalt rock columns, formed by ancient volcanic lava flows.

The next stop is the natural monument known as the “Symphony of Stones” or “Basalt Organ”. If you look at the gorge from a distance, the rocks seem like a giant organ. The amazing regularity of the basalt columns’ shape catches the eye and causes delight. The Azat River flows nearby.

Next, we’ll visit the Geghard Monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with special protection status. Its full name is Geghardavank, which means “Monastery of the Spear.” The name comes from the spear of Longinus—the Roman soldier who, according to tradition, pierced Jesus’s side. The spear is now kept in the treasury of the Etchmiadzin Cathedral.

Our first stop will be Sevanavank Monastery, located on the Sevan Peninsula (which used to be an island). It offers attractive views over the lake and is one of the most legendary religious sites in Armenia.
